McLeod Enterprises began in 1976 with the formation of the first HoneyTree Early Learning Center by Kathy McLeod, in Sterling, Virginia. In 1978 HoneyTree was moved to Roanoke, Virginia where it began in a small rented building serving 40 children. Today, the company is the largest child care provider in southwest Virginia with 12 locations serving over 1300 children and families in the Roanoke Valley.
In 1986, John G. McLeod, CPA, formed McLeod & Company (Certified Public Accountants) after serving 3 years on a nuclear submarine in the U.S. Navy and on the audit staff of Ernst & Young and KPMG LLP for 12 years. McLeod & Company started as the smallest firm serving Roanoke. The firm focus was providing value added services to larger companies with specialization in manufacturing. By 1998, McLeod & Company had become the largest CPA firm headquartered in southwest Virginia. In 2010, McLeod & Company merged with Cherry, Bekaert & Holland, LLP. John retired from CB&H in 2011.
These operating entities, HoneyTree Early Learning Centers and McLeod and Company, provided the basis for growth into all the other operating companies and enterprise areas.
Currently McLeod Enterprises operates over 15 entities with over 250 employees.
